Kybella is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that contours and improves the appearance of a double chin, or what doctors call “submental fullness.”
At Renuance Cosmetic Surgery & MedSpa in Temecula Kybella is considered an outpatient treatment and should take only about half an hour to complete. During treatment sessions, Kybella is administered into the fat under your chin using tiny injections. Temecula Kybella patients typically benefit most from 2-4 treatment sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
If you’re bothered by submental fullness, you’re not alone. According to a 2015 survey conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), 67% of people said they’re bothered by under-the-chin fullness or a “double chin”, and people are just as bothered by under-the-chin fullness as they are by lines and wrinkles around and under their eyes.
Without surgery, and with little to no downtime, Kybella can contour the area beneath your chin to significantly improve your appearance. Board-certified plastic surgeons and the expert medical staff at Renuance Cosmetic Surgery & MedSpa will design an individualized treatment plan tailored to help you improve your chin profile.
Kybella requires no downtime to recover. In fact, you can even drive yourself home afterward and continue on with your day. However, you want to avoid vigorous physical activity as the site of your injection(s) may be tender and wait at least until the next day before returning to your regular activities. In addition, you may have swelling, bruising, and reddened skin for up to a week. You may need to use ice packs on the areas that you have treated with Kybella a few times the same day as treatment. You may need to take an over-the-counter pain reliever to alleviate discomfort.
You will have a numbing cream during the procedure to keep you from feeling the injection(s). Once that wears off, you will likely feel tender and sore. Most patients report mild levels of pain at the site of the injections, which can be alleviated through over-the-counter medications. If your soreness, bruises, tenderness, or swelling does not improve, call your doctor.
You will need to come to the Renuance Cosmetic Surgery & MedSpa to establish their eligibility before scheduling any procedures. In general, ideal candidates are at a stable weight, have skin in relatively good condition, do not want surgery, and have stubborn chin fat despite diet and exercise.
Because each patient is unique, there may be different needs for treatment plans. Generally speaking, on average patients will have two to four Kybella sessions that take place six to eight weeks between them.
Because of swelling, it may take up to a month for your results to become fully visible, although you may start noticing differences as early as three days after your treatment. Result times can also vary on your age and how much fat there is under your chin.

Kybella is the only FDA-approved dermal injectable that specifically targets the fat under your chin and melts them away. If you are constantly bothered or self-conscious by your double chin, especially if you eat healthily and exercise regularly, Kybella can provide the solution you’re looking for without the need for surgery.
No. Kybella injections come in the form of a thin needle that should not leave behind any scars or skin irregularities. There can be bruising from the injection(s), especially if you have sensitive skin, but that should fade in a few days. There will also be some swelling, but that should also go away as your body dissolves your chin fat.
Yes. A board-certified plastic surgeon is familiar with and can diagnose other medical conditions that may affect your Kybella treatment. Conditions such as masseter hypertrophy, retrogenia, prominent submandibular salivary glands, and platysmal bands, are just a few examples.
A board-certified plastic surgeon is experienced and comfortable performing operations and injections within the complex anatomy of the neck. Also, a surgeon can identify if you are honestly not a good candidate for Kybella and fully discuss the risks, benefits, and alternatives of other treatments.
Kybella has been involved in over 20 clinical studies worldwide and is approved by the FDA. The most common side effects are minor and usually resolve without treatment. These include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness around the treatment area. Serious side effects were extremely rare in clinical trials.
At your initial consultation, our doctors and the expert medical staff at Renuance will design and propose an individualized treatment plan. Many Temecula patients see results after their very first treatment and most patients will continue to benefit from a total of 2-4 treatments. Treatments are performed 4-6 weeks apart.
Unlike some injectables, the effect of Kybella is permanent. Once fat cells are destroyed those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After the desired effect is achieved, future retreatment with Kybella is not expected.
Kybella prices vary depending on how many treatments you may need in your treatment plan, which is unique to each patient at the Renuance Cosmetic Surgery & MedSpa. The best way to get an estimate is to meet for a consultation with one of our plastic surgeons, who can customize a plan just for your needs.
Because Kybella is normally an elective procedure, your insurance provider does not usually cover the costs. If you don’t have the full cost of treatment upfront, we partner with CareCredit, Alphaeon Credit, and Point Loma Credit Union, three different financing companies that help make your payment more affordable.
